The public Q&A wall
Ask Christian
You have a question you are a little embarrassed to ask out loud. Ask it here instead. Real questions from neighbors about money, taxes, and retirement, answered in plain English. Read the wall, or ask your own below.

How the wall works
Neighbors send in the questions they would ask across the kitchen table. I answer them one at a time, in plain English, and every figure is checked against the source before it goes up. Names are never published, only the question and the answer.
This wall is education, not personal advice. It cannot see your situation the way a conversation can, so check the official sources linked under each answer before you act on anything.
Answered so far
Does 'no tax on overtime' mean my whole overtime check is tax-free?
Only the overtime premium counts, not the whole check, and there is a yearly cap.
I left my job. Do I lose my HSA?
The HSA balance stays yours. Adding to it is a separate question.
My old employer sent me a 401(k) check. What do I do before the clock runs out?
Who the check is made out to decides whether tax gets withheld.
I earn too much for a Roth IRA. Is the backdoor Roth legit?
Two steps, one trap: the pro-rata rule can tax part of the conversion.
When do required minimum distributions start, and how much?
Age 73 is the trigger. Your balance and an IRS table set the amount.
Ask your question
Ask it like you would ask a neighbor. I read every one myself, and the best questions get answered on this wall for everyone. Your question goes to me only, it is never sold or shared with other agents.
