Understand what Medicare covers
Medicare generally does not pay for ongoing help with everyday activities when that is the only care you need. Coverage for qualifying skilled care follows different rules. Understanding the difference can help your family plan for expenses that may remain.
Start with how you would want care arranged
A useful conversation begins with your preferences. Would you want help at home? Could a spouse or family member assist, and what would that ask of them? Bring those questions before choosing a benefit amount. We can review the types of care a proposed policy includes and the providers it allows.
Read the benefit requirements together
A policy explains when benefits can begin, what evidence is needed, and whether there is a waiting period. It also sets limits on what can be paid and for how long. We can go through the wording and identify what your family could still need to cover.
Consider the premium over time
A policy needs to fit your budget today and during retirement. Ask whether premiums can change, what options you would have if they became difficult to afford, and what happens if you stop paying. If you already own coverage, bring it to the review before considering a replacement.
Questions to bring to your consultation
- Where can I receive covered care?
- What must happen before benefits start?
- How are the benefit amount and duration limited?
- Can the premium change, and what choices would I have?
- How would this fit with my savings and existing coverage?
We can meet in Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem, or a nearby community. Bring any current policy you’d like to review. A spouse or family member is welcome.

- Does Medicare pay for long-term care?
- Medicare generally does not cover non-medical long-term care, such as ongoing help with bathing or dressing. Some skilled care is covered when Medicare’s requirements are met. Review your situation with Medicare and your care providers.
- Can a policy cover care at home?
- Some policies include home care, but the covered services, provider requirements, and benefit limits vary. We can review the exact policy language and the questions you want answered.
- Should I bring a policy I already have?
- Yes. Bring the policy, a recent statement, and any notices about premium changes. We can review what you have before discussing other options. There is no obligation to replace it.
- Can my family join the consultation?
- Yes. A spouse or another family member is welcome. I offer no-cost consultations at home, at a convenient public location, or by phone in Greensboro and nearby Triad communities.
