In Wake Forest, your county line can change your plan list
Wake Forest sits just north of Raleigh, and it is growing fast. At the 2020 census the town had 47,601 residents, up from 30,117 in 2010. Most of Wake Forest is in Wake County, with a small part of town in Franklin County. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are offered by county, so the plan list for your address depends on which side of that line you live on. Your mailing address will not tell you. Check your home county first. Wake Forest Town Hall is at 301 S. Brooks St., and the town's main number is (919) 435-9400, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
WakeMed North Hospital, at 10000 Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh, is the closest hospital to most Wake Forest homes. WakeMed describes it as serving the northern part of the county near Wake Forest and Rolesville. Many Wake Forest residents also see doctors at Duke Raleigh Hospital or UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Put each doctor and office on your list separately. The hospital name alone does not prove a plan covers your whole care team.
I am Christian Brinkley, a licensed insurance agent in North Carolina. I help people in Wake Forest, Rolesville, and the rest of northern Wake County sort this out at home or over the phone. You talk to me, not a call center. It is free, and there is no obligation to enroll.
What a meeting looks like in Wake Forest: bring a list of your doctors, including any specialists in Raleigh, plus your prescriptions and the pharmacy you use. I check each one with you for next year, so you see what I see. If a plan you are considering drops one of your doctors, you know before you sign anything, not after.
If you would like a second opinion from someone who does not sell insurance, North Carolina's SHIIP program offers free, unbiased Medicare counseling. Call SHIIP statewide at 1-855-408-1212, Monday through Friday. I am glad to help before or after you talk with them.
If you are turning 65 in Wake Forest and still working, bring your employer coverage notice and the date that coverage is expected to end. Ask your benefits administrator how the employer plan coordinates with Medicare before you cancel anything. Your seven-month Initial Enrollment Period runs around your 65th birthday, and I can map out your exact dates with you.
For a fall review in Wake Forest, bring your current plan's Annual Notice of Change, the letter that lists what changes next year. Make a separate list of the medications you fill, the doses, and the pharmacy you prefer. If you moved here from another county, tell your current plan about the move and keep the move date. A change of address can open a Special Enrollment Period, and I will check whether one applies to you.
